Planning Envelope

Three steps from boundary to mass

Work the way you already model. Select lines, set your rules, generate.

Step 1

Pick the boundary

Select your property lines, detail lines or model lines (a closed loop), then click HIRB Envelope on the HIRB tab.

Step 2

Set limits per edge

Vertical limit, inward angle and subdivision for every edge, with bulk edit and a live site map preview.

Step 3

Generate

A smooth envelope appears as a Mass, painted with your colour and transparency.

Built for sloping sites

Heights are measured up from the ground, so the envelope stays true where the terrain moves.

Follows your terrain

Reads the toposolid or topography surface for true ground-relative heights.

Per-edge rules

Different vertical limit and angle on every boundary edge.

Height cap

Optional maximum height, offset from the terrain.

Runs unattended

No Revit warning dialogs, and a clear result summary when it finishes.

Questions

What does HIRB mean?

Height In Relation to Boundary: a planning rule that limits building height based on the distance from the site boundary. Other regions call it a daylight envelope, recession plane or setback envelope.

Which Revit versions are supported?

Revit 2025, 2026 and 2027 on Windows 64-bit.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The licence is checked online about once a day and keeps working for up to 7 days without a connection.

Can I move it to another computer?

Yes. Use Deactivate this PC in the Licence window, then activate on the new computer. Each licence covers 2 computers.

What data do you collect?

See the privacy policy. In short: your licence key and computer name are sent to our licensing provider to activate. Your Revit models are never uploaded. We do not collect any other data.

Is the result a compliance document?

No. The envelope is a modelling aid. Always verify against your local planning rules and with the relevant authority.
